You Are Always Welcome Here

What To Expect

What happens during church?

As you enter the church, a friendly usher will greet you and give you a bulletin to guide you through the service. Both of our Sunday services feature reading, preaching, prayer, and music. At times, you will be invited to stand, sing, pray, greet your neighbor, be in silence, or read responsively.

Communion is offered on the first Sunday of the month during 10:15 worship and every Sunday during 8:15 worship. Our communion table is open to everyone—baptized or not, confessed or not, sure or not.

At our Sunday morning services we receive an offering to support the church’s ministries. We welcome your gifts and encourage everyone to give as you are able. If you are unable to give financially, please consider an offering of time or talent to the church, another organization, or a neighbor in need.

Where do I park?
There is parking in the lot behind the church as well as on Beach Road.  To go to the Chapel from the parking lot, enter through the double doors to the left of the playground.  To go to the Sanctuary from the lot, enter the double doors covered by a Portico to the right.  If you entering the building from Beach Road, enter the double doors in the right hand low building and turn right for the Chapel. For the Sanctuary turn left and up the stairs, across the big room (Wakeman Hall) to the single door on the left and head down the ramp. You can also enter the Sanctuary from the Old Post Road.

Both parking lot entrances to the Chapel and to the Sanctuary are accessible. Accessible restrooms are also available outside both the chapel and sanctuary.

Do you offer childcare or Sunday School?

Children and families of all sorts are welcome here at First Church. Childcare is available at our 10:15 service. Church School programs are offered on Sundays for children in Ages 3 through grade 8. Confirmation is offered for those in 8th grade. More details are available on the Families with Children page.

What should I wear?

Some people come dressed in their Sunday best. Others dress more casually. Either way, we believe that God cares more about the who we are than how we are dressed,  We encourage you to dress the way that feels most appropriate to you.

How long do services last?

Sunday 8:15 Service lasts about 45 minutes.  The 10:15 service in the Sanctuary runs about an hour.

Is there a coffee hour or fellowship time after church?

We invite you to stick around for coffee, tea or juice following the 10:15 worship.  Strike up a conversation and make some new friends!   Several times a year everyone is invited to stay for lunch too.

How can I get more information?

Please feel free to chat with one of our pastors after church, or attend an upcoming session “Introducing First Church” with the Pastors David Spollett and Jennifer Campbell. You can also email Cheri Evan,  or call her at 203-259-8396 ext 10 and she’ll make sure your question gets to the right place.
